Markus Rautzenberg is a philosopher and media theoretician. He studied German philology and philosophy and earned his doctorate in philosophy with a thesis on “Zeichen–Störung–Materialität” / „Sign, Disorder and Materiality“ in 2000. In the following years he was postdoctoral fellow at the graduate program „InterArt“ and research associate at the Institute of Philosophy at the Free University of Berlin. From 2011 to 2014 he was in charge of the DFG project “Evocation. The non-visual power of images”. Since 2016 he is professor of philosophy at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.
